Penn State men’s basketball earned six AP Top 25 votes in this week’s poll after Pat Chambers’ squad upset then-No. 8 Ohio State in dominating fashion as part of a four-game winning streak.

The team also took down Iowa, Illinois, and Maryland during the four-game winning streak — which was sandwiched between two road losses to top-10 teams in Michigan State and Purdue. The Spartans and Boilermakers are two of college basketball’s best programs, yet Penn State held sizable leads against both teams at times while playing in their respective arenas.

Additionally, Penn State’s RPI rating ranks them at No. 77 in the country. Most major analysts project that Pat Chambers’ squad will narrowly miss out on the big dance, but the teams’ final two games of the season and a strong showing in the Big Ten tournament, which gets underway on February 28, could push Penn State into the field of 68 tournament teams.

The Nittany Lions’ will finish their regular season slate with a home game against No. 17 Michigan and a road test against fellow NCAA Tournament hopefuls Nebraska. Wednesday’s contest gets underway at 7 p.m., while the Nebraska game will tip of at 5:15 p.m.
