Atherton Street Utility Maintenance Project Begins, Closes Lanes

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the beginning of an extensive utility work project on North Atherton Street between Aaron Drive and Park Avenue Wednesday that involves some lane closures and traffic redirection.

The $12.8 million project is focusing on the relocation of utility, sewer and water lines, sidewalk maintenance, drainage improvements, curbing, ADA ramps, installing a new concrete median, traffic signal upgrades, and paving, according to a press release.

The project will temporarily close the northbound travel (right) lane from Blue Course Drive to Park Avenue. It will also shut down the street’s north and southbound passing (left) lanes between Cherry Lane and Blue Course Drive in early March. High traffic volume and changing construction zones may cause further lane shifts.

Road work will begin by late March according to PennDOT, and the project is expected to continue through 2019. We’ll provide updates on the project and road closures as they progress.
