The Apple Tree Closes After More Than 40 Years In Business

The Apple Tree in downtown State College closed after over 40 years in business on Thursday, according to the Centre County Gazette’s Vincent Corso.

The business sold posters, tapestries, and other decorations for students’ dorms and apartments. Although the store on East College Ave. is now closed, store owner Earle Harner will continue to run the Apple Tree’s online shop.

Harner said that he could no longer compete with Amazon as more people choose to shop online.

The store was located on the same property purchased by the Herlocher family in June 2017. Harner told the Gazette that the Herlochers offered him a good lease, but he ultimately decided that he could no longer keep the store.
