Submit Your Proposal For The 2019 Class Gift

If you spent your summer dreaming about all of the ways you’d improve Penn State if you had the money, now’s your chance: Proposal submissions are now open for the 2019 Class Gift.

One of the most treasured traditions for each senior class, the class gift gives the Penn State community the opportunity to make an impact on the university and leave a lasting legacy. From the Nittany Lion Shrine to the endowment of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), you’d be hard-pressed to stroll through campus without enjoying the benefits of a class gift contribution.

“Penn State provides incredible opportunities to its students,” Class Gift fundraising director Anna Thoet said in a release. “We want to get the entire senior class — along with the underclassmen — involved in the process so that they can see how much of an impact they can make on the future of Penn State.”

The Class of 2018 chose to support three separate gifts with its fundraising: an endowment for the Student Farm, the Textbook and Educational Resources Fund, and an alma mater display in the HUB. It’s unclear how many gifts the Class of 2019 will choose to support.

“In order to enhance the student experience here at Penn State, the proposal process is crucial to the success of the campaign,” Class Gift executive director Tom Beeby said in a release. “We ask that you join us in leaving a lasting impact on our incredible university.”

The Class Gift Executive Committee hopes to bring in 219 proposal submissions this year from community members, a play on the Class of 2019 graduation year. Thoet said the committee hopes to raise awareness for university philanthropy and ultimately offer a wider variety of gift ideas.

Submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday, September 14. All you need to do to submit your proposal is fill out this online form with a short description of your gift idea and how it aligns with the mission of Penn State and the Class Gift Campaign.

A group of students, faculty, and administrators will then narrow down the pool of gift ideas for voting on by the Class of 2019. Voting will be held from Sunday, October 14 to Friday, October 19 and the final class gift selection will be announced Wednesday, October 24 in the HUB.
