[Photo Story] Arboretum Gets Spooky For Annual Pumpkin Festival

With the fall season here and Halloween quickly approaching, what better way to get into the spooky spirit than with hundreds of pumpkins?

As night falls on the Arboretum and its greenery is replaced by the dark night there comes the yellow and orange lights dotting the landscape. Old and young alike crowd the Arboretum looking for the best jack o’ lanterns the Penn State community can carve.

This year’s Pumpkin Festival was a (smashing) good time!

The pumpkins from the traditional to the extraordinary populated the late October night and delighted many a spectator.  We call this one Jack (Skellington) o’ lantern.
Pumpkins dawning characters from popular movies and television to detailed faces and images of the fall season were on display.
The hundreds of jack o’ lanterns were truly a nighttime spectacle.
Pumpkins lined the Arboretum up and down as far as the eye could see. Lines and lines of eager children and parents look on in awe at the unique display of art for show.
Of course this Pumpkin Festival would not be complete with traditional fall fare. Apple cider, hot cocoa, and homemade popcorn were for sale keeping parents and kids warm and happily satisfied.
Everywhere children and parents were laughing and having a good family night out.
Families waited in anticipation for the judging of the best jack o’ lanterns to be set, all in good fun.

Did you head to the Arboretum last weekend? Let us know in the comments which jack o’ lantern was your favorite!
