Penn State football’s annual White Out game will be played on October 19 against the Michigan Wolverines, according to a release.

This year’s game will be the eighth consecutive White Out to take place against one of Michigan or Ohio State. Alabama was the last team not called the Buckeyes or Wolverines to play in the White Out game. Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide escaped Beaver Stadium with a 27-11 victory in week 2 of the 2011 season.

Michigan’s last White Out appearance came in 2017, and it was a night to remember in Happy Valley. Jim Harbaugh’s side was throttled 42-13 by then-No. 2 Penn State. Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley both posted hat tricks of touchdowns to effectively end Michigan’s conference and national title hopes in emphatic fashion.

Wolverine cornerback Lavert Hill — an ex-Penn State commit — flipped off the student section postgame, a gesture he later apologized for. Hill said Penn State “disrespected us” in the defeat ahead of last season’s meeting between the teams, and he’ll be back with Michigan for one more dose of White Out conditions this year.

The White Out has drawn #107kStrong crowds in each season since 2004, and the last two games have broken Beaver Stadium’s all-time attendance records. 110,823 fans witnessed the Michigan beatdown in 2017 before last year’s announced attendance of 110,889 against Ohio State. This probably goes without saying, but you should expect another huge crowd to pack into Beaver Stadium on October 19.

This year’s official White Out shirt was also unveiled on April 9. It provides a warning — “expect excessive noise” — in static, block font and is now available to purchase online and in stores.

Penn State will announce the rest of this season’s promotional games in the coming weeks, but a few have been set already. On top of the White Out, the Nittany Lions’ game against Purdue on October 5 will cap off homecoming week in Happy Valley.
