Donate Extra Meal Points To Help Students In Need

When it comes to the end of the semester, many students living on campus are swimming in extra meal points. Rather than living like royalty with Creamery ice cream for breakfast and Chick-fil-A for lunch, you can put some of those dining dollars toward a good cause before they disappear at the end of the semester.

During dinner and late night on Monday, April 22, anyone eating at Redifer Commons (or, if you insist, the South Food District) will be able to donate $5 to $15 from their meal plan to the Student Emergency Fund.

The Student Emergency Fund is designed to help students in personal crises or emergencies who are overwhelmed by the circumstances. It helps provide short-term assistance to students struggling with financial hardship due to emergency, accident, illness, or other unforeseen events. This might include support for temporary housing or other essential needs like food, which is where the donated meal points come in.

The University Park Undergraduate Association has been advocating for years for a program like this, and it seems it’s finally coming to fruition — even if it is for just one night.

Before you stock your freezer with enough ice cream to last you all summer long, consider donating some of those extra meal points to students in need.
