Arboretum ‘Ridge And Valley’ Sculptor To Speak At Forest Resources Building

Arboretum

Stacy Levy, award-winning environmental sculptor of “Ridge and Valley” in the Arboretum, will speak about her work at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 in 112 Forest Resources Building. The presentation will also be streamed live online.

Levy studies urban streams, rivers, tides, and rainwater. She also designs large-scale public art that clarifies the natural processes at work while collaborating with scientists, engineers, surveyors, and landscape architects.

Her recent projects use storm water runoff to make rainwater an asset to the site. “Ridge and Valley” illustrates water flow through the Spring Creek watershed by using rainwater to animate creeks, streams and other landscape features carved into a stone map. “Ridge and Valley” earned the 2010 Year in Review Award granted by the Americans for the Arts Public Art Network.

Levy has won numerous awards for her other work, including the Henry Meigs Environmental Leadership Award, the Excellence in Estuary Award from the Partnership for Delaware Estuary, Inc., and the DC Water Green Infrastructure Challenge Award with Urban Rain Design and Nitsch Engineering.
