Sexual Assault Involving Four Brothers Reported At AEPi Fraternity House

Update 2:21 p.m., January 22: Penn State’s Interfraternity Council released the following statement regarding the reported sexual assault:

“The Interfraternity Council is aware of the reports and the ongoing investigation. There is no place in our community for sexual misconduct and the IFC is committed to providing safe environments for members and guests by continuing to provide training and education.”

Update 2 p.m. January 22: The State College Police Department is seeking assistance from the public for a sexual assault reported to Penn State Police on January 21, the date the AEPi submission was filed, in its jurisdiction.

The police department hasn’t been contacted by any potential victims or suspects at this time, and it asks anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them by phone (814-234-7150) or email. You can also submit an anonymous tip to the department online.

Update 11 a.m. January 22: Penn State has placed AEPi on interim suspension pending investigations by the university’s Office of Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response and the State College Police Department. 

Update 5:48 p.m.: The university released the following statement on the reported sexual assault:

“State College Police are investigating this reported criminal matter. As Penn State always does when it receives allegations of this nature involving students, the University’s Office of Sexual Misconduct Prevention & Response is also investigating. Other appropriate offices have been notified and are involved in contacting fraternity leadership and the national organization for this fraternity to seek more information, as further action is contemplated. Penn State is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all students in our community and takes allegations of sexual misconduct seriously. Anyone with information about this alleged assault is urged to contact State College Police at 814-234-7150.”

Original story: A student was sexually assaulted by four fraternity brothers at Alpha Epsilon Pi’s house last week, according to an online submission received by University Police Monday morning.

The sexual assault was reported to have occurred sometime on Wednesday, January 15 at the fraternity’s house, which is located at 240 E. Prospect Ave.

The victim and accused brothers remain unknown, as the assault was reported by a third party.

The university and Interfraternity Council didn’t immediately return requests for comment. We’ll update this story with more information as it becomes available.
