Grant Ament Earns First-Half Hat Trick In Professional Lacrosse Debut

Former Penn State men’s lacrosse star Grant Ament got off to a hot start in the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) Monday when he helped his Archers defeat the Atlas 11-10 in a back-and-forth encounter.

Ament scored a first-half hat trick and added an assist in his first game for the Archers. The club drafted him at No. 1 overall earlier this summer.

The Archers are now 1-0 in the PLL Championship Series, a summer tournament created due to the coronavirus. Each of the seven teams will play four pool play matches to determine seeding for the knockout round. The tournament final will be on August 9.

Ament departed Penn State this spring, earned numerous records, and joined the conversation for the best-ever collegiate player. Known as the “assist king,” Ament racked up a Big Ten record 280 points in three and a half seasons for the Nittany Lions, 189 of which were assists.

Despite an abbreviated 2020 season for Penn State, Ament opted out of returning. If his first game is any indication, it seems he won’t have any trouble adjusting to professional lacrosse.

The Archers will return to action on Tuesday, July 28, when they face the Waterdogs at 7 p.m. You can catch the game on NBCSN.
