Penn State Welcome Week Continuing As Planned Starting August 17

Although Penn State’s upcoming semester will be unorthodox in nearly every way, Welcome Week will continue as planned when students arrive on campus this month.

Penn State’s annual week of new-student activities will begin when first-year students begin moving in on Monday, August 17. Currently, they can sign up for move-in time slots through eLiving.

Once they move in, freshmen will take part in “extended” orientation programming alongside their peers and RAs. Through orientation, Penn State will expand on topics covered during virtual orientation programming, including alcohol and drug use, sexual assault prevention, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Orientation aside, Welcome Week will feature a number of other freshman traditions, including New Student Convocation, academic college meetings, and the fall Involvement Fair, which is going virtual this year. The university hasn’t yet announced how freshmen will pick up their coveted Convocation t-shirts.

Penn State will also offer its annual Be A Part From The Start pep rally, but it’ll look “a little different from years past” due to public health guidelines and capacity restrictions.

First-year students will also get the chance to embark on tours around campus, check out networking events, and catch a few live performances while meeting new friends. Details about the latter remain sparse, but it’s safe to say they may take place virtually, too.
