Penn State Football Ranked No. 7 In Preseason Coaches’ Poll
Penn State football checked in at No. 7 in USA Today’s first Coaches’ Poll of the 2020 season.
The poll, topped by Clemson and Ohio State at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, featured six total Big Ten teams, including Wisconsin (No. 11), Michigan (No. 15), and Minnesota (No. 18). Iowa rounded out the conference’s representatives at No. 23.
Last year, the Nittany Lions landed at No. 14 in the preseason Coaches’ Poll and wound up at No. 9 by the season’s end.
The Nittany Lions will enter this season with high expectations following their 11-2 2019 season. Sean Clifford will enter his second season as the starting quarterback, while the team will attempt to counter the losses of star talents, including KJ Hamler and Yetur Gross-Matos. Additionally, linebacker Micah Parsons reportedly plans to opt out of the 2020 season to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.
Penn State will kick off its 2020 season with a home matchup against Northwestern on Saturday, September 5. However, according to Penn State Athletics, home sporting events won’t feature fans in attendance.
