Penn State Implements Changes To Title IX Regulations

Penn State has implemented a number of changes to its Title IX regulations, the university announced this week.

The updated guidelines create narrower parameters for what’s considered prohibited conduct under Title IX. Additionally, any alleged sexual misconduct by students and employees that doesn’t meet Title IX parameters will be settled by the university through a separate non-Title IX process.

The updated regulations also require Title IX cases to be settled using the same processes for both students and employees.

Penn State encourages individuals to report instances of sexual misconduct to the Title IX coordinator, the Office of Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response, or the Affirmative Action Office. Any questions regarding the new changes to the Title IX regulations should be directed to the University’s Title IX coordinator.

All changes are retroactive to August 14, when they went into effect.

Back in March, the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights required Penn State to make “major changes” to its Title IX policies after an investigation found it failed to protect students.
