Former Penn State Football Wide Receiver Saeed Blacknall Re-Signs With Pittsburgh Steelers

Former Penn State football wide receiver Saeed Blacknall has re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced Friday morning.

Blacknall will make his return to Pittsburgh after being released just one week ago.

Blacknall originally signed with the Steelers earlier this year on April 13. Previously, he had a brief stint in the now-suspended XFL and appeared in three games for the Los Angeles Wildcats, totaling four receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns.

He spent four years in Happy Valley from 2014 to 2017 and proved to be a valuable deep-ball threat. The Nittany Lion totaled 50 receptions for 979 yards (19.6 yards per reception) and seven touchdowns during his Penn State career. Blacknall played a huge role in Penn State’s Big Ten Championship victory in 2016 against Wisconsin. He hauled in 40- and 70-yard touchdown passes to help the Nittany Lions overcome a 28-7 deficit at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Following his Penn State career, Blacknall went undrafted and signed on with the Oakland Raiders, spending the majority of the season on the organization’s practice squad. He had brief stints with the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals but wasn’t able to stick on either of the teams’ rosters.

Blacknall will have to fight his way onto the Steelers’ roster over the next week. All 32 NFL teams will have to trim their rosters down to 53 players by Saturday, September 5. If he makes the roster, he’ll have a chance to suit up for a NFL regular season game for the first time since 2018.
