College Of Arts And Architecture To Host Virtual Concert Series

Penn State’s College of Arts and Architecture will begin hosting an expansive virtual concert series this week, the college announced last week.

The event, titled the “Together, Alone Faculty Concert Series,” will kick off on Monday, Monday, August 31 and stretch through November. Each performance will be virtually livestreamed at 8:30 p.m.

The series will feature Penn State School of Music Professors, starting with Naomi Seidman (flute), Andreas Oeste (oboe), Christopher Guzman (piano), Melody Quah (piano), Anthony J. Costa (clarinet), Daryl Durran (bassoon), Jim Lyon (violin), and Josh Davis (double bass).

The concert series drew inspiration from discussions about the coronavirus pandemic and its effect on musicians around the world. The shows will be performed separately, reflecting the feeling of isolation as experienced during the pandemic. Each act will play pieces that reflect their quarantine experiences and play their own rendition of Baljinder Sekon’s “Praying Alone.”

Performers will wear face masks and closely follow Penn State’s social distancing guidelines. Each act will perform for no more than 30 minutes in an audience-less venue at the School of Music’s Recital Hall.

You can catch the livestreamed performances here. Additionally, a full schedule can be found on the college’s website.
