First Night State College 2021 Canceled Due To Coronavirus Concerns

First Night State College 2021 has been canceled due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic, according to a press release from the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts.

This is the first time since 1995 the annual family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration will not take place.

“Our community continues to demonstrate resilience and we share that spirit at our organization,” CPFA Board President Renata Engel said in a statement. “We understand that, in the past, First Night has represented a look toward the future and that’s why we feel the same disappointment as each of you with this year’s situation.”

Despite the cancellation, CPFA staff is planning virtual events for a “December to Remember” event, which will take place from late November until right before Christmas.

“Staff and volunteers already are creating events and activities that will kick off in November to spark your imagination and bring us together in spirit and online,” Engel said. “We’ll draw on the creativity and collaboration that are central to our mission. And we’ll stay steadfast in our commitment to providing the memorable experiences our community looks forward to during this special time of year.”

First Night is one of many local events that have been canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this year, Arts Fest, Movin’ On, the 2020 Blue-White game among other events were canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak.
