Penn State Football Long Snapper Chris Stoll Awarded Full Scholarship

Former Penn State football walk-on run-on Chris Stoll has been awarded a full scholarship for the 2020 season.

The team announced the news with an announcement from fellow run-on and current Minnesota Viking Dan Chisena.

Now entering his fourth season in Happy Valley, the redshirt junior long snapper was a fixture on the Nittany Lions’ special teams unit last season. Stoll appeared in all 13 games and helped Jake Pinegar, Jordan Stout, and of course Blake Gillikin all have big years.

Gillikin averaged 42.2 yards per punt with Stoll snapping the ball to him, while Stout and Pinegar combined for 13 converted field goals and 56 extra points. Stout even managed to nail a program-record 57-yard bomb against Pitt with Stoll at long snapper.

After his successful redshirt sophomore campaign in 2019, Stoll was awarded the Outstanding Run-On Award at Penn State football’s end-of-season banquet in December, along with running back Nick Eury.

Stoll, who hails from Westerville, Ohio, now enters his second season as Penn State’s starting long snapper alongside second-year special teams coordinator Joe Lorig.

Along with this honor, Stoll may also be in the running for Penn State’s new tradition, in which it will choose one special teamer to wear the No. 0. The long snapper, who currently wears No. 91, shared his thoughts on the new tradition during Penn State football’s media days last week.

“I think a lot of guys with this new tradition will see how much Coach Franklin puts importance on special teams and I think more guys will want to work harder and show that they can impact the field not just on offense and defense,” Stoll said.
