Report: Penn State Hoops’ Sam Sessoms Eligible For Upcoming Season

Penn State men’s basketball transfer Sam Sessoms will reportedly be eligible for the 2020-21 season, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.

Sessoms’ transfer to the Nittany Lions was announced this past March. The West Philadelphia previously played two seasons at Binghamton as a point guard.

The 6’0″ guard was a force for the Bearcats over the course of those two seasons. He was named the 2018-19 season America East Rookie of the Year after averaging 17.8 points per game and shooting 45% from the field. As a sophomore, Sessoms started all 29 games, averaged 19.4 points per game, 4.8 assists, and reached 1,151 career points.

According to Ari Rosenfeld, Sessoms also had offers to transfer to Wichita State, Marquette, Rutgers, and UConn. He’ll now add depth to a Penn State backcourt that includes the likes of Jamari Wheeler, Myles Dread, and Myreon Jones.

It was previously thought that Sessoms would have to sit out the upcoming season, but according to Rothstein’s report, he’ll be playing for the Nittany Lions as soon as possible. The NCAA announced in September that the college basketball season will be allowed to start as early as November 25.
