Did you go to Penn State during the 1980s? Oh, you did! Are you sure about that?
Recently, a popular Penn State thrift shopping Instagram account, Joe Pa’s Closet, released photos on a “blast from the past” poster titled “Are You A Penn Stater?” The sign features a list of 80 things that determines a real 1980s Penn State student from just the ordinary, boring bookworm.
So, Onward State poses the question: Are you really a Penn Stater? Did you actually “do it” on the 50-yard marker of the golf course? Were textbooks only $25? Did you ever meet Joe Paterno?

- Pay your respects to Old Coaly
- Feed a squirrel

- Lose your coat…or something else…at a fraternity (Like my wallet, right? Right?!)
- Eat a Grilled Sticky at 4 a.m.
- Go to a bowl game
- Dance to oldies at the Gaff (By 1980s standards, we’re talking about real oldies!)
- Pull a dorm prank
- Graduate within six years
- Grow up and leave Happy Valley for the real world
