UPUA Votes To Support Transgender Day Of Remembrance

The 15th Assembly of the University Park Undergraduate Association met virtually Wednesday for its 13th fall semester meeting.

The meeting had two special presentations this evening. The first was from Zack Moore, vice president of Penn State’s Office Governmental and Community Relations.

The second presentation was from Claire Kelling, a student chair to Penn State’s Student Fee Board. Kelling spoke about how this year the Student Fee Board is working to increase transparency and is expanding to different social media outlets to reach students in whatever way is best for them.

UPUA Vice President Lexy Pathickal then gave her report, and the assembly soon moved into new business for the evening.

New Business

The first and only piece of legislation for the evening was Resolution 42-15.

This resolution, on behalf of UPUA, supports the Transgender Day of Remembrance and Transgender Visibility Week. The purpose of Transgender Visibility Week is to educate the public about issues pertaining to the transgender community and to raise awareness about the community in general.

On Thursday, November 19, the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity will host a virtual vigil to honor transgender individuals who died over the past year due to hate crimes.

Resolution 42-15 passed 27-0-1.

Following a few executive reports and comments for the good of the order, the meeting adjourned at 8:51 p.m.
