New App Aggregates State College Coronavirus Safety Reviews

A new tool launched by State College natives is helping customers stay safe, feel comfortable, and support local businesses following coronavirus mitigation guidelines.

The app, named 6ish as a tongue-in-cheek reference to staying 6 feet apart, aggregates reviews and ratings of social distancing and public health comfort levels from consumers.

Residents can also use 6ish to browse restaurants and businesses before choosing to head over. According to 6ish, the higher the rating a business receives, the safer it probably is to visit in person.

“We believe it is important to keep our community safe, and 6ish enables us to make smart decisions,” co-creator Jason Browne said. “The only way to know if a business is safe is to go there — so wouldn’t it be great to know what others have experienced first?”

According to a press release, 6ish was created to help hold businesses accountable while following local, state, and federal coronavirus mitigation guidelines.

“6ish provides the information necessary to make informed decisions,” the app said in a statement. “The more the app is used, the more businesses are incentivized to follow the guidelines, which, in turn, helps our local economies.”

6ish hopes to accumulate 2,000 reviews on its site by January 1, 2021. To submit your own, simply head to its website, log in, and write up a storm.

Two of 6ish’s three founders are from the State College area and specifically chose it to launch the service. It’s unclear if the app plans to expand in the coming months.
