Gameday Coverage: Penn State vs. Michigan

Following the worst start in program history, Penn State football (0-5) will travel to the Big House to face off against Michigan (2-3) on Saturday.

The Wolverines are seeking their first home win of the season after falling to Michigan State and Wisconsin in Ann Arbor. Penn State leaves Happy Valley hoping for a sign of life after suffering five straight losses.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the afternoon showdown.

Television

Saturday’s matchup will kick off at noon and be broadcast on ABC. Dave Pasch and Mike Golic will be on the call while Paul Carcaterra will report from the sideline.

Radio

Penn State Sports Network — Steve Jones and Jack Ham
Local: 99.5 & 103.7 FM/1450 AM, Sirius: Ch. 132, XM: 207, Internet: 967

Weather

It’s shaping up to be a perfect day for a November football game in Michigan. Temperatures will be in the low 40s at kickoff and hit a high of 47 degrees at 3 p.m.

There’s no rain in the forecast, according to AccuWeather. Expect a dry 36% humidity and a dew point of 27 degrees.

Last Meeting

Penn State held on for a 28-21 win in White Out conditions when these teams last met in 2019. KJ Hamler caught two touchdowns in what turned out to be an exciting game throughout.

The Beaver Stadium crowd even forced Michigan to call a timeout before the first play! Well, with a little help from “Mo Bamba.”

Michigan holds a 14-9 series lead over Penn State. The home team has one each of the last four games and these two teams have never met before while both having losing records.

Injuries/Suspensions

James Franklin typically plays his injury cards close to his chest, so we aren’t sure about the team’s health status. Noah Cain and Pat Freiermuth will miss Saturday’s game after suffering season-ending injuries. Devyn Ford, who left the Iowa game early, was being re-evaluated during the week.

Defensive end Kwity Paye, right tackle Jalen Mayfield, left tackle Ryan Hayes, and center Andrew Vastardis all missed the Wolverines’ previous game against Rutgers.

We won’t know until kickoff if anyone has tested positive for the coronavirus. James Franklin said Penn State has experienced a high amount of false-positive tests so far this year, which is a concern the morning of any game.

Betting Lines

Michigan is a one-point favorite heading into this game, according to OddsShark. This is the second straight game the Nittany Lions have been underdogs. The over-under is set for 58 points, 12.5 points lower than Penn State’s previous game against Iowa. The over hit last week.
