Transfer Portal Roundup: Week 13

For the first time in forever, Penn State football fans had a lot to smile about this weekend.

The Nittany Lions picked up their first win of the season on a road trip to Michigan, improving to 1-5 on the season.

Elsewhere in college football, though, some former Penn Staters put in solid shifts for their new squads. Let’s take a look around the college football world and see how some Nittany Lion transfers performed.

Daniel Joseph, NC State

Joseph put together a solid performance for the second straight week. He had four tackles, three for loss, and one sack during NC State’s 36-29 win over Syracuse. Joseph added another sack onto his 6.5 so far this season.

Joseph and the Wolfpack sit at 7-3 on the season and will conclude ACC play against Georgia Tech Saturday.

CJ Holmes, Kent State

The Golden Flashes were off to the best start in program history until this weekend. Holmes had two tackles during Kent State’s 70-41 loss to Buffalo. The story of this game was Buffalo running back Jaret Patterson, who ran for 409 yards and a whopping eight touchdowns! Thanks, Joe.

Justin Shorter, Florida

Shorter had a relatively quiet day for the Gators, catching the ball only three times for 21 yards. No. 6 Florida defeated Kentucky 34-10 after a slow first half start.

Quarterback Kyle Trask is in the thick of the Heisman race and tight end Kyle Pitts, who had three touchdowns versus Kentucky, leads the country in touchdown receptions. The Gators sit at 7-1 and are on the verge of clinching a spot in the SEC title game.

Zech McPhearson, Texas Tech

McPhearson had a solid game for the Red Raiders during their 50-44 loss to No. 23 Oklahoma State. He had seven tackles during what was a disappointing performance for the Red Raider defense.

The Red Raiders sit at 3-6 and will wrap up the season against Kansas Saturday.

John Petrishen, Pitt

Petrishen had three tackles, with 1.5 tackles for loss, during Pitt’s shellacking at the hands of No. 3 Clemson 52-17. Trevor Lawrence returned for Clemson after sitting out due to the coronavirus and shredded the Panthers’ defense.

Pitt will end the season on December 10, when it plays Georgia Tech in a game that was rescheduled due to coronavirus.
