Report: Penn State Wrestling To Begin 2021 Season January 16

After a long wait due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Big Ten has reportedly unveiled its schedule for the 2021 wrestling season, according to FloWrestling’s Christian Pyles.

The Nittany Lions are set to compete in nine matches against conference opponents only. Their schedule includes three home dual meets, two away dual meets, and two away tri-meets.

Penn State’s season will begin with a trip to Rutgers on January 16. Eight days later, the Nittany Lions will host Michigan State on January 24 at Rec Hall.

Cael Sanderson’s team will then head to Evanston, Illinois for a tri-meet with Northwestern and Indiana on January 30. The Nittany Lions will head to Ann Arbor on February 7 for another tri-meet with Michigan and Wisconsin.

One date to circle on the calendar is February 12, when Penn State will host Iowa at Rec Hall. The Hawkeyes stunned the Nittany Lions last season and will attempt to win two meets in a row.

Penn State will close out the regular season with a trip to Ohio State on February 19 and a home finale against Maryland on February 21.

Although the coronavirus pandemic has made the upcoming season unpredictable, Penn State fans still enjoyed some action as the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club has put together four freestyle matches against other top clubs from around the country. Now, the season is finally back, and Penn State will attempt to rebound from an unusual two-loss dual meet season.

There’s no word on a spring NCAA Tournament just yet. Fall sports, however, have contingency plans to play championships in the spring, so it stands to reason winter and spring sports will do the same…eventually.
