Penn State Modifies Spring 2021 Greek Recruitment Eligibility

Penn State has revised eligibility requirements for students who want to participate in fraternity and sorority recruiting this spring, according to a release.

Under these new guidelines, students who meet certain requirements can participate in Greek recruiting, with the exception of those who have had conduct probations notated on their transcripts.

The revised guidelines have been added to protect the social, emotional, and academic interests of students. All students who wish to participate in fraternity or sorority recruitment or recruitment for spring 2021 must:

  • Have earned at least 14 credit hours at Penn State; or earned 27 transfer credits, or be considered an adult learner
  • Have a 2.50 cumulative Penn State GPA
  • Not have Conduct Probation with a Transcript Notation at the time of recruitment or intake
  • Not be suspended or expelled at the time of recruitment or intake
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student
  • Participate in an online information session sponsored by the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life

Prior to the spring 2021 semester, any student with active conduct violations or sanctions couldn’t participate in recruitment. This new requirement specifies that the only conduct sanction that will disqualify students is Conduct Probation with a Transcript Notation – which is reserved for serious or repeated violations of the Code of Conduct and one step below suspension – when it is still active at the time of recruitment.

Although students can opt for the alternative grading system for the fall 2020 semester, students planning to participate in recruitment must also have a 2.5 cumulative GPA to be eligible.

These new requirements apply to all Commonwealth Campuses with recognized fraternity and sorority chapters, including University Park, Harrisburg, Behrend, and Altoona.

Penn State’s formal recruitment will be held remotely from January 20 through February 1 for Panhellenic chapters and February 22 through March 10 for Interfraternity chapters. National Pan-Hellenic and Multicultural Greek chapters will hold informal recruitment activities based on the respective chapter.
