Nittany Lions In The NFL: Divisional Playoff Roundup

Another week of playoff football is in the books, folks.

As the journey toward the Super Bowl continues, a few Penn Staters made an impact for their respective NFL teams during the divisional round. Chris Godwin and Adrian Amos both helped propel their teams to victories, while Nick Scott put on a solid performance in the Rams’ loss.

Here’s a closer look at how Nittany Lions in the NFL performed during Divisional Weekend.

Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It was a quiet day for Godwin in the Buccaneers’ 30-20 win over the Saints. The fourth-year wideout hauled in four receptions worth 34 yards on a day where his quarterback, Tom Brady, threw for just 199 yards.

Godwin nearly brought in a 29-yard touchdown late in the first half, but the ball slipped out of his hands as he went to the ground.

While this one was a tough grab to make, Godwin has had some uncharacteristic drops over the past two games. This caused some media members, most notably ESPN’s Stephen A Smith, to criticize the wideout on social media.

Godwin will attempt to bounce back when the Bucs travel to Lambeau Field next week to take on the Packers in the NFC Championship Game.

Adrian Amos, Green Bay Packers

Amos had a solid game in the Packers’ win over the Rams Saturday afternoon. He posted just five tackles but helped hold the Rams’ offense to just 18 points and 244 yards while playing 100% of the defensive snaps.

The only blemish for Amos was late in the first half when Rams wideout Van Jefferson caught a touchdown between Amos and another Packers defender.

Amos and the Green Bay will host the Buccaneers at 3:05 p.m. Sunday in the NFC Championship Game.

Nick Scott, Los Angeles Rams

Scott tied a season-high with five tackles in the Rams’ loss to the Packers. It was an impressive tackle total for Scott, who played just 36 snaps in the contest.

Teammate Jalen Ramsey was seen visibly upset at Scott after a Packers touchdown early in the second quarter. It appears Ramsey expected Scott to pick up the man in motion, but Scott went with the receiver over the middle instead.

Scott heads into the offseason still under contract with the Rams. He will attempt to carve out a larger role on defense next season after spending most of this season on special teams.

As we advance to the conference championships next week, five Penn Staters remain on active playoff rosters. With at least one Nittany Lion on every team left in the playoffs, it’s guaranteed that at least one Penn Stater will take home a Super Bowl ring this season.
