124 Test Positive For Coronavirus In ‘Revamped’ COVID-19 Dashboard Debut

One hundred and twenty-four University Park students and employees tested positive for the coronavirus over winter break, according to Penn State’s “revamped” COVID-19 Dashboard, which debuted Tuesday morning.

Between December 19 and January 17, 76 students tested positive out of 2,779 total tests administered. In that same span, 48 employees tested positive following 1,299 tests.

Currently, seven individuals are currently situated in Penn State’s quarantine and isolation spaces. The university’s capacity sits at 400 total spaces.

Figures from this span included numbers from Penn State’s pre-arrival testing for the spring semester, which is required for anyone returning to the “campus community” or on-campus residence halls. The dashboard also incorporated figures from student-athlete testing conducted throughout winter break and any tests taken by those who stayed on campus following the fall semester.

Penn State plans on updating the newly unveiled dashboard three times a week throughout the semester on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The university said testing data is added to the dashboard once results are received.

New features on the dashboard include an “All Campuses” button that shows testing statistics for Penn State’s entire network, calculations for positivity rates, and “enhanced” quarantine and isolation data.

Penn State recently unveiled new plans for spring coronavirus testing. On top of random surveillance testing, the university will conduct universal testing of all on-campus students starting February 15 and continue offering walk-up testing to those who need it. Additionally, any students living in the dorms during Penn State’s remote period must complete weekly testing through February 12.
