HUB-Robeson Galleries Announce 2021 Exhibition Schedule

Penn State’s HUB-Robeson Galleries have opened new in-person and virtual exhibitions to bring art to Penn Staters with the start of the spring semester.

At on-campus exhibits, HUB Galleries are following university guidelines and allowing a maximum of just five guests inside at a time. All exhibits are free to attend.

Here’s a quick overview of what’s new:

The Anxiety Project

When: January 16 through March 14

Where: HUB Gallery and online

This exhibition by School of Theatre professor William Doan brings light to mental health issues. The display tells Doan’s story and speaks out against the mental health stigma students may face.

When the Bough Breaks

When: Saturday, January 16

Where: HUB-Robeson Center and Art Alley

This exhibit will be on display for the entirety of the spring semester. “When the Bough Breaks” is a collaborative piece containing work from nine different contributors and addresses climate change through the representation of trees.

Human Expectations

When: Until Sunday, January 31

Where: HUB-Robeson Center display cases and online

This exhibition features the work of four artists, forming the human head as a map or apparition, expressing an array of systems such as knowing, disruption, and social difference. The artists consider the limitations and possibilities of human expectations working from their personal stories, origins, and interests.

Human Expectations II

When: Through June 20

Where: HUB-Robeson Center display cases and online

This exhibition features the work of five artists, embodying a search for expression and experience, and symbolically paying tribute to life and death. Each sculpture strives to be powerful and suggestive and share what living with eyes closed feels like.

Border Exchange

When: Until Monday, February 15

Where: HUB-Robeson Center, Wall Case

This installation contains two paintings and a site-responsive wall painting. By artist Carlos Rosales-Silvia, the paintings consider cultures of the American Southwest, the western art historical canon, and the political and cultural connections and disparities between them.

Something Means Something Else

Where: HUB-Robeson Center, Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity

This installation by Tamara Gayer will remain on display at the HUB’s Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity. The three-part mural presents the intricacies of the current movement in sexual and gender identity through abstract interpretations of pattern, color, symbol, and light.
