Report: Penn State Football’s Lance Dixon Enters Transfer Portal

Penn State football’s rush to the NCAA’s transfer portal continued Thursday afternoon.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Lance Dixon has entered the portal, according to a report by Lions247.

After redshirting and appearing in three games in 2019, Dixon appeared in all nine games this season and earned his first career start. The 6’2″, 220-pound linebacker made nine total tackles in 2020 and forced a fumble in a losing effort to Ohio State. Dixon made a career-high five total tackles in that week two loss to the Buckeyes.

According 247Sports national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu, Dixon is already favored to transfer to Michigan. The former four-star high school recruit hails from West Bloomfield, Michigan and received offers from the Wolverines, Michigan State, and even Wisconsin back in 2017 and 2018.

The Nittany Lions have had a consistent flow of transfer portal activity in both directions over the past few months. Dixon joins several Penn Staters in the portal, including Micah Bowens, TJ Jones, and CJ Thorpe, among others. However, James Franklin has already added five players to his program through the portal since the 2020 season came to a close, most recently former Harvard offensive lineman Eric Wilson.

If Dixon does elect to leave Happy Valley through the portal, the Nittany Lions will still have plenty of depth at linebacker. Starters Brandon Smith, Jesse Luketa, and Ellis Brooks are all expected to return at this time, along with Curtis Jacobs, Max Chizmar, and Charlie Katshir.
