Big Ten Men’s Hoops Tournament Relocated To Indianapolis

Penn State men’s basketball will face off against the Big Ten’s best in Indianapolis instead of Chicago this March.

The conference announced Tuesday that the annual tournament, originally slated to be played at the United Center in Chicago, will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

“The decision to relocate the tournament to Indianapolis was based on multiple factors,” the conference stated. “First and foremost was the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, officials and conference constituents. Hosting both the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments in the same city allows for cohesive testing and medical protocols for both events, as well as centralized accommodations surrounding the competition venues.”

Last year’s Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament was set to be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Only two games were played before the tournament was cancelled due to the coronavirus. Pat Chambers’ squad earned the No. 6 seed and was set to take on No. 11 Indiana, but that game was never played.

The Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament will also be held in Indianapolis this year at Bankers Life Fieldhouse from March 9-13. The men’s tournament will be played from March 10-14 across town at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Interim head coach Jim Ferry’s team currently sits as the No. 10 seed in the conference with a 4-7 record in Big Ten play. That spot would give the Nittany Lions a first-round bye in tournament play.
