Bob Costas, Tom Verducci Join 2021 Sports Business Conference Lineup

Sportscasting legends Bob Costas and Tom Verducci will speak at Penn State’s fourth annual Spring Business Conference, the event announced Thursday afternoon.

Costas and Verducci will take the stage alongside Penn State professor and Knight Chair in Sports Journalism and Society John Affleck. They are set to speak at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 1, the first day of the conference.

Costas worked at NBC for almost 30 years, hosting 11 Olympic games and a plethora of other sporting events. He’s received 28 Emmy nominations for his work over his career.

Verducci, meanwhile, is a Penn State graduate and an alum of The Daily Collegian. He has primarily worked as a writer for Sports Illustrated as well as a broadcaster for Fox and MLB Network.

Other speakers at this year’s conference include NWSL Commissioner Lisa Baird, CAA Sports co-head of basketball Jessica Holtz, and 3 ICE Hockey League CEO EJ Johnston.

The Sports Business Conference was founded in 2017 to help motivate students who want a career in the sports industry and connect them with industry alumni. Last year, the conference was supposed to feature WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert and Barstool Sports CEO Erika Nardini, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This years’ conference will take place virtually from March 1 to 4. Tickets to the event are free, and students can join a mentorship program that grants access to different workshops and giveaways for $5.
