How To Productively Use THON 2021’s Midnight-To-6 A.M. Break

From midnight to 6 a.m., the THON livestream will go dark while dancers are asleep or resting up. Of course, with THON notoriously known for its 46-hour presence, a good bit of Penn State will still be wide awake before the livestream continues (including us here at Onward State!).

To make sure the folks who are scheduled for the late night/early morning shifts are hyped, here are some activities we crafted to keep the blood flowing.

Take A Lap…Or 10…Around Your Designated THON Space

Nothing is better than getting a good bit of movement around your apartment or house. Put on some running shoes and imagine you are running around the Bryce Jordan Center.

Better yet, create a routine to always stay up and moving. The time dancers would be doing the line dance, get up and run. Get up and move as much as possible. Each step you take to 6 a.m. is support #FTK.

Learn A New Recipe

If you are celebrating THON at home or in a location that has the kitchen necessities, take up some new baking and/or cooking skills. If you are really looking forward to the morning light, reference our homemade Irving’s recipes experiment. Nothing passes more time than learning a new meal and enjoying how tasty it could be. And if you mess up? Doesn’t matter, you made the time pass.

Relive Penn State’s Best Moments

Imagine you’re nodding off, trying to stay awake for your shift, all while wondering what the next day’s events could be. We are here to save you. Remember all of THON’s recap videos, performances Penn State has seen in its prime, or any of Penn State’s iconic sports moments?

Hop on the good ol’ YouTube and reminisce some of the best days at Penn State. The odd hours of the morning stay thriving.

Teach Yourself The THON Line Dance (And Even Memorize The Lyrics)

We all could see how intricate and in-depth the lyrics to this year’s line dance are. If you want to take our advice: Rewind the livestream, set up your speakers (or connect your headphones), and get to work! There is no way you have the whole thing memorized by now. If so, congrats, and keep practicing.

Do Your Homework

Yes, we know, this is the last possible thing you might want to do. It takes away the excitement of keeping yourself awake. But, this week’s prep took a lot of time and effort out all of us.

Take this time to maybe, JUST maybe, take this quiet time to knock out your homework. This means it’ll be a nonexistent worry for the rest of the THON weekend.

Actually Sleep

C’mon, guys. They’re called “sleep shifts” for a reason! Get some shut eye to make sure you’re ready to rock the next morning. If you don’t, you’re only hurting yourself!

At the end of the day, do whatever you need to do to keep your energy up. We know how hard it can get, so take our advice whenever you feel is best.
