Penn State Children’s Hospital Illuminated Blue For THON Weekend

Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania, was illuminated blue and white Saturday morning in commemoration of THON 2021.

Transplant hepatologist and physician-scientist Dr. Jonathan G. Stine expressed his delight in seeing the lights.

“Advantages of an on-call weekend — seeing this Beautiful site for #THON2021,” Stine said in a quote tweet.

The Crescent is a signature piece of architecture of the hospital community. Medical center leaders use its LED illumination to bring general awareness to various mission-related causes, issues, and events.

In 2014, the system was upgraded to reduce energy consumption and allow for different color schemes besides the standard “white lights” that lit the Crescent for the past forty years.

In the past, the Crescent was illuminated red, white, and blue to salute past and present military service members, purple in honor of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, and light blue in honor of Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month.

Since 1977, THON has raised more than $180 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital.
