You Could Be Penn State Hoops’ Next Head Coach

Think you have what it takes to lead Penn State men’s basketball to its first Big Dance since 2011? Its first Final Four since 1954? Ready to battle Big Ten opponents in the hallowed grounds of the Bryce Jordan Center?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then boy do we have good news for you. While you were preparing #THON2021, Penn State Athletics officially put out a job opening Friday afternoon titled “Head Coach Men’s Basketball.”

We’re not kidding, folks. The application is right here on the university’s Workday portal.

Simply click “I’m Interested” (because of course you are) and follow the steps to fill out your personal information. The job description explains that Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking a head coach for men’s basketball who is a “dynamic and experienced leader.”

“Responsible for maintaining and strengthening a nationally competitive men’s basketball program by presenting a clear vision and strategy to compete for B1G and NCAA Championships,” the application reads.

Along with that, a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus at least eight years of Division I coaching are required.

Assuming you have those requirements fulfilled, go ahead and apply! Simply create a Workday account if you haven’t already, agree to the background check requirement, add your resume, past coaching information, and other basic job application stuff.

Penn State does currently have an interim head basketball coach in Jim Ferry, but Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Sandy Barbour explained that the program will conduct a “national search” at the end of this season in case it’d like to go in a different direction.

It’s unclear whether this national search will include those who apply through this method. Either way, good luck to all applicants! Trust the climb.
