Penn State To Resume Random COVID-19 Testing March 1

In-person classes are finally back, and so is Penn State’s random COVID-19 testing.

The university announced over the weekend that it will begin randomly testing 1 to 2% of its population per day, including those who are living, learning, or working on campus. Folks interacting with Penn State remotely but still living within 20 miles of campus are also included in the process.

Random testing will take place at two locations between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Testing will occur at the former FedEx office at 101 North Atherton Street (the corner of North Atherton and College Avenue) and the Mount Nittany Club in Beaver Stadium.

Those selected will receive notice of their selection through their Penn State email, which will include a link to register for the appointment.

What’s good to note is that the nasal swab is not the invasive swab that everyone was wary of back when the pandemic started. Individuals will need to painlessly self-swab their own noses for approximately 15 seconds in both nostrils.

While Penn State is conducting random testing, walk-up testing is still available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m Monday through Saturday at Hintz Family Alumni Center. Also, beginning on March 1, Pegula Ice Arena will be open to walk-up testing.
