Limited Fan Attendance Allowed At Big Ten Basketball Tournaments

For the first time in nearly a year, Penn State men’s and women’s basketball will play in front of fans.

The Big Ten conference announced Thursday a limited number of fans will be allowed in Lucas Oil Stadium and Bankers Life Fieldhouse for the conference’s tournaments.

The men’s tournament will permit 8,000 total fans in the arena, which will take place in Indianapolis from March 10 to 14. A limited amount of tickets will be available to students through Penn State’s ticketing office. Tickets for the women’s tournament are also available to the general public via Ticketmaster.

Penn State did not play in last year’s tournament as it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Nittany Lions were eliminated by Minnesota in the first round of the 2019 tournament.

The women’s tournament will allow up to 2,500 fans and also take place in Indianapolis. The Lady Lions were eliminated in the first round of the 2020 tournament, also by Minnesota. Maryland took home the gold right before the ensuing NCAA Tournament was canceled due to the pandemic.

Penn State men’s basketball currently holds a 9-13 overall record, good for 11th place in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions have one regular-season game remaining against Maryland, which will take place on Sunday, March 7. For any NIT or NCAA Tournament hopes to remain alive, the Nittany Lions must play well in the Big Ten Tournament.

It’s more of the same for the Lady Lions, who also sit at 11th place in the Big Ten with a 9-13 record. Their 6-12 conference record, however, is a huge upgrade over last year’s dismal performance.
