Penn State Men’s Soccer-Indiana Postponed Due To COVID-19 Concerns

Penn State will need to wait to play one of the Big Ten’s most anticipated games of the season, the team announced Friday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions’ marquee matchup with No. 19 Indiana has been postponed due to COVID-19 concerns among Penn State’s “Tier 1” personnel, which could include student-athletes, coaches, trainers, and more.

This is the team’s second match of the week that has been postponed due to virus concerns, following Wednesday’s affair with No. 9 Michigan. Penn State originally would’ve played Indiana on Sunday, March 7.

Neither game has been rescheduled yet, although the teams will work with the Big Ten to find an alternate date. The Nittany Lions currently have no games scheduled for next week, with their next match a home rematch with Rutgers on Monday, March 15.

When the schedule was released a few months ago, this week jumped out for Penn State. The Nittany Lions were conference runner-ups to Indiana in the 2019 regular season before losing to Michigan in the Big Ten semifinals.

All three teams were part of a six-team tie at the top of the standings entering the week. Considering Penn State’s postponements, the team will most likely have some catching up to do once it hits the field again.
