Penn State Football Newcomers Receive Jersey Numbers

As the long-awaited 2021 spring ball is officially underway for Penn State football, some of the newest Nittany Lions received their jersey numbers Tuesday.

Between transfer additions and early enrollees, 14 players found out their new digits. With a decent bit of roster turnover this offseason, the Nittany Lions were able to shuffle around and replace certain numbers as well.

Most notably, Ta’Quan Roberson swapped over from No. 9 to No. 2. Micah Bowens, who transferred to Oklahoma, previously donned those digits. Early enrollee quarterback Christian Veilleux will now wear No. 9, which was recently worn by Trace McSorley during his time in Happy Valley.

John Lovett, a transfer running back from Baylor, will suit up in the classic No. 23, which was made popular by Michael Jordan. Linebacker Curtis Jacobs currently wears that number on the defensive side of the ball.

Four-star offensive lineman Landon Tengwall, who highlighted Penn State’s 2021 recruiting class, will wear No. 58, an adjustment from the No. 72 he rocked in high school.

Brothers Kalen and Kobe King will wear No. 4 and No. 41, respectively. The fours in both of those numbers could just be a coincidence, but it’s fun to imagine they planned this out. Kalen is a cornerback, Kobe is a linebacker, and they’re both early enrollees.

Here’s a full list of numbers for all incoming Penn State football players:

  • No. 3: Johnny Dixon (Cornerback)
  • No. 4: Kalen King (Cornerback)
  • No. 9: Christian Veilleux (Quarterback)
  • No. 17: Arnold Ebiketie (Defensive line)
  • No. 23: John Lovett (Running back)
  • No. 24: Jeffrey Davis Jr. (Cornerback)
  • No. 28: Dominic Deluca (Linebacker)
  • No. 41: Kobe King (Linebacker)
  • No. 54: Derrick Tangelo (Defensive line)
  • No. 58: Landon Tengwall (Offensive line)
  • No. 64: Nate Bruce (Offensive line)
  • No. 89: Winston Eubanks (Tight end)
  • No. 90: Rodney Mcgraw (Defensive Line)
  • No. 97: Barney Amor (Punter)
