Students In Hastings, Stone Halls Encouraged To Get Tested For COVID-19

Penn State is encouraging all residents of Hastings Hall and Stone Hall to get tested for COVID-19 following “several” positive results in the area, the university announced Wednesday.

Residents of those specific buildings in East Halls should seek walk-up testing at Pegula Ice Arena on Wednesday, March 17, or Thursday, March 18, out of an “abundance of caution.”

Asymptomatic walk-up testing is available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Pegula and the Hintz Family Alumni Center. Students experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 must schedule an appointment through University Health Services.

At this time, it is unclear exactly how many positive results were discovered in Hastings and Stone Halls. Penn State’s updated contract tracing system will also be in effect.

“We have had a few students from each of these residence halls test positive this week,” Director of COVID-19 Operations Control Center Kelly Wolgast said. “To help us understand if the virus has spread further and to catch and isolate any additional positive cases, we are asking all students living in these locations to get tested for COVID-19, unless they have tested positive in the previous 90 days.”

“We’re using rapid tests at our walk-up sites at University Park, which means students who get tested will get their results on site,” Wolgast continued. “So, even if you are asymptomatic – and this goes for all students, not only those in Hastings and Stone – walk-up testing provides convenient reassurance that you are not potentially putting others at risk. It’s a judgment-free zone – you’re not asked where you’ve been or what you’ve been doing – you’re just taking the responsible step of getting tested.”
