Pegula Ice Arena To Host COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic Starting April 22

Penn State is partnering with Walmart this week to offer a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at Pegula Ice Arena that’s open to the university’s students, employees, and dependents.

The clinic will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Thursday, April 22, through Saturday, April 24. It’ll offer 1,170 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine over the three-day period.

Online appointments are required. Students and employees will also need to bring their Penn State IDs to the site when they arrive for their appointments. Although vaccinations are free, you should bring your insurance cards, too.

Those arriving at Pegula for a vaccine should head to Entrance B about 10 minutes before their appointment. They’ll also need to stay for at least 15 minutes after receiving their shots to check for side effects.

“We are thrilled to be able to partner with Walmart to offer this important vaccination opportunity to the Penn State community,” Kelly Wolgast, director of Penn State’s COVID-19 Operations Control Center, said in a release. “Available time slots are limited, and we expect appointments to be in high demand, so I urge any member of our community who has not already received a vaccine to sign up quickly.”

Penn State said Pegula’s clinic will reopen from May 13 to 15 to administer second vaccine doses to those who go this week. Only those who know they’ll be able to return in May should sign up in April.

Plus, to encourage vaccinations, Penn State’s Berkey Creamery is offering free ice cream cones to the first 500 students who sign up and receive their shots.

From April 22 to 24, Pegula won’t offer its usual walk-up COVID-19 testing. However, Hintz Family Alumni Center will continue testing students from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

COVID-19 vaccines are also available on Penn State’s campus at the Bryce Jordan Center, although that site is operated by the state. It began administering Moderna vaccines last week while Johnson & Johnson’s remains on pause.
