Mac O’Keefe Drafted No. 6 Overall By PLL’s Chaos LC

The greatest goal-scorer in NCAA history has found his new home at the next level.

Penn State men’s lacrosse attackman Mac O’Keefe was selected No. 6 overall by Chaos Lacrosse Club in the 2021 PLL College Draft on Monday night. He is the second Nittany Lion taken in the first round in the last two years following Grant Ament, who was drafted No. 1 overall by Archers LC last year.

O’Keefe was the best sharpshooter available on the board in this year’s draft. He recently broke Justin Guterding’s record for the most career goals in NCAA history when he scored career goal No.213 during an overtime win versus Michigan two weeks ago. He currently has 27 goals and five assists this season for a total of 32 points.

The Syosset, New York native was a three-time all-American during his time as a Nittany Lion. Along with the NCAA career goals record, O’Keefe also holds the top two goal-scoring seasons in Penn State history. In his junior campaign, O’Keefe scored 78 goals, which is also a Big Ten record. The Nittany Lion captain opted to come back for the 2021 season despite having the option to go pro.

O’Keefe’s patented underhand shot has helped him become one of the most dynamic attackers in the nation during his college career. It’s no secret that his shot is electric and can’t miss, but O’Keefe is labeled a one-dimensional player by some. However, he has significantly improved as an off-ball presence during the 2021 season.

O’Keefe should slot in nicely in a Chaos attack that features the likes of Miles Thompson, Josh Byrne, and Connor Fields. Following the conclusion of the 2021 college season, O’Keefe will be in training camp preparing for the start of the 2021 PLL season, which begins on June 4 at Gillette Stadium in Boston, Massachusetts.
