James Franklin is officially hot on the recruiting trail.

Lackawanna College safety Tyrece Mills announced his commitment to Penn State football’s class of 2022 Wednesday morning. He’s the second prospect to commit to the Nittany Lions in the last five days, as Maleek McNeil made his official this past Saturday.

Mills doesn’t have a ranking on 247Sports, but it should be noted that Lackawnna played just two games during his freshman campaign in 2020.

During his time at Northeast High School in Philadelphia, however, Mills impressed on either side of the ball. The 6’0″, 205-pound safety made 56 total tackles as a senior, including one for a loss, and even spent time as a wide receiver. He finished his varsity career with nine catches worth 170 yards. Mills most impressive stat, however, is his eight interceptions over the course of his senior season.

This is yet another example of Penn State’s strong connection to Lackawanna, as Jaquan Brisker, Norval Black, and Ji’Ayir Brown all joined the Nittany Lions after a stint at the junior college.

Mills now becomes the second defensive player to join Penn State’s class of 2022, alongside four-star defensive end Ken Talley.
