For First Time In Months, Penn State Athletics Reports Zero COVID-19 Positives

Penn State Athletics reported zero positive COVID-19 tests among its student-athletes last week, according to the department’s weekly testing report.

Penn State administered 282 COVID-19 tests to student-athletes between May 8 and 14, resulting in zero positives. It was the first week without a single positive since August.

It’s not much of a surprise Penn State’s positives bottomed out last week. Reported positives among student-athletes had declined greatly this spring after topping out with 50 positives in one week in mid-September.

To date, Penn State Athletics has reported 424 positive tests since testing began last summer. It’s also performed nearly 55,000 individual tests.

Starting next week, Athletics will no longer report testing results on its own. Instead, they’ll be automatically rolled into Penn State’s COVID-19 Dashboard, which already factors Athletics’ figures into reported totals.
