Alyssa Naeher Plays Hero, Sends Team USA To Olympic Semifinals

The U.S. is still alive thanks to an unbelievable performance from former Penn State women’s soccer star Alyssa Naeher.

Although the team’s start to the Olympic tournament was shaky at best, Naeher dominated against the Netherlands in the quarterfinals. Show-stopping saves in regular time and penalty kicks pushed the U.S. into a semifinals date with Canada.

Naeher saved this penalty kick late in regular time to keep the U.S. locked with the Netherlands at 2-2. The team hung on to move to extra time and soon enough wound up in penalty kicks following an uneventful period.

Naeher unsurprisingly rose to the challenge in penalty kicks and saved two penalties, including this beauty.

Megan Rapinoe drilled four straight penalty kicks to help the U.S. win the shootout 4-2. However, if Twitter chatter is any indication, Naeher remains the star of today’s match.
