State College To Resume Paid Parking Starting September 7

State College’s Parking Department announced on Wednesday it will end free parking and resume normal operations this fall.

Starting September 7, on-street metered parking spaces will return for short-term parking. These meters can be paid with coin and card or remotely through the Parkmobile app.

Parking is $1.25 an hour, but it’s free most Sundays. Meters will be enforced from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Parking is not permitted from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Also beginning September 7 is the use of surface lot parking. The Allen and Beaver Lots, as well as the McAllister Deck, will open with a rate of $1.25 an hour and a maximum time limit of five hours. This will be enforced from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, the McAllister Deck will not permit parking from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Garage parking is also set to resume. All three garages, Beaver, Fraser, and Pugh, will be open 24/7 and have hourly off-street parking. The first 30 minutes of parking is free. From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., the daytime rate to park is $1 an hour. From 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., the evening rate to park is $0.75 an hour. The maximum daily rate for these garages is $18.

On most Sundays, parking at garages is free. During special events, parking is $2.25 an hour, but the maximum rate is $32.
