Report: Baltimore Ravens Waive Trace McSorley

Update, September 1: After being waived by the Ravens Tuesday, Trace McSorley is reportedly heading back to Baltimore on the organization’s practice squad, according to The Athletic‘s Jeff Zrebiec.

While he remains off the active roster at the moment, it’s possible McSorley could get called back up to the 53-man squad at some point during the regular season.

According to ESPN reporter Jamison Hensley, the Ravens will waive McSorley as they attempt to trim their roster down to the league-mandated 53 players. Hensley added Baltimore hopes to bring McSorley back to its practice squad if he clears waivers.

McSorley injured his back earlier this summer and missed out on most of Baltimore’s preseason action. Hensley reported the former Penn State standout returned to practice on Monday.

Although he never started with the Ravens, McSorley impressed in his few appearances as a backup. He notably filled in for an injured Robert Griffin III last season and completed two passes for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Baltimore selected McSorley out of Penn State as the No. 197 pick in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Now, he’ll work his way back to full health and look for his next professional opportunity.
