Adam Taliaferro Named Honorary Captain For Penn State-Auburn

A familiar face will return to Happy Valley this weekend to serve as an honorary captain for the White Out.

Former Penn State football cornerback Adam Taliaferro is set to be an honorary team captain for the Nittany Lions’ non-conference showdown with Auburn, per the official game notes.

Taliaferro’s football career came to a premature end when he suffered a spinal cord injury against Ohio State on September 23, 2000. The true freshman made a full recovery despite being given a 5% chance at walking again by doctors.

In one of the more heartwarming Beaver Stadium moments of all time, Taliaferro led the Nittany Lions out onto the field against Miami less than one year after his injury. He eventually graduated from Penn State in 2005. His journey and recovery were also recently featured in a Big Ten Network documentary.

This will be the second week in a row honorary captains have been featured at Beaver Stadium. Last week, the family of Penn State football alum Patrick Dwyer, who died on September 11 while at work on the 105th floor of the World Trade Center’s North Tower, served as honorary captains.
