Although the college basketball season has yet to begin, the sport’s Coaches vs. Cancer initiative is in full swing in Happy Valley.

The Penn State chapter of the organization is set to hold its annual 5K race this weekend at 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 3, at the Penn State Golf Courses, located on 1523 West College Avenue.

Pre-registration is currently available online. Registration will open one hour before the race and cost $25. You can find out more about the event by visiting the Penn State chapter of Coaches vs. Cancer’s website.

The initiative’s 5K race follows its 24th annual golf tournament, which men’s basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry hosted in August.

Coaches vs. Cancer is a collaborative effort between the American Cancer Society and the Association of Basketball Coaches to raise money for cancer research and treatments. The Penn State chapter was founded in 1995 by former men’s basketball coach Bruce Parkhill and has since raised over $3.4 million.
