Report: KJ Hamler Tore ACL, Will Miss Rest Of Denver Broncos’ Season

KJ Hamler’s second year in the NFL has reportedly come to an early end.

According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the former Penn State football standout tore his ACL in the Denver Broncos’ week three tilt with the New York Jets. Hamler was forced out of the game in the second quarter after he awkwardly landed on his left leg while laying out for a pass.

Hamler was helped off the field by Denver’s training staff, which quickly ruled him out for the rest of the game shortly thereafter.

Now without Hamler, the Broncos’ pass-catching corps is quickly dwindling. Jerry Jeudy, formerly Denver’s top option, remains on injured reserve following a week one injury, leaving most of the heavy lifting to receiver Courtland Sutton and tight end Noah Fant for now.

Hamler ended his 2021 season with five catches for 74 yards under his belt. To date, he’s racked up 35 catches for 455 yards and three touchdowns in his young NFL career.

His recovery will be tough, but Hamler’s injury comes early enough in the season that a return before Denver’s 2022 season opener isn’t out of the question. Former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley tore his ACL in week two of the 2020 NFL season and managed to return in time for the next season.
