Students Against Sexual Violence At Penn State To Host Protest October 1

Students Against Sexual Violence will host a protest on Friday, October 1 to raise awareness about Penn State’s policies regarding sexual violence on campus. The demonstration will begin at 5 p.m. in front of the Allen Street Gates.

Students Against Sexual Violence formed as a result of the increase in timely warnings for sexual assaults reported across campus. To date, Penn State has reported 11 offenses this fall.

“SASV organizes and fights to make Penn State a place where people, regardless of gender, can feel safe and supported,” the organization said. “We recognize that the university administration and the board of trustees are not our allies in this fight, but are actively participating in maintaining the systems that produce, enable, and protect rapists and abusers.”

The organization is demanding that Penn State establish a public registry of offenders with names and photographs of offenders. It also hopes the university will ban offenders from campus and release the location of all sexual assaults that happen on and off campus.

SASV last hosted a protest on September 24 to stand in solidarity with University of Nebraska students defending victims of sexual violence.
